WHAT:聽Anthony Giardina, an author and playwright, presents the Neilly Lecture, “The Novelist and the Historical Imagination.” The talk focuses on the challenges that novelists face when researching the Civil War for fictional purposes.
Giardina has held numerous teaching positions, at Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Colorado College, the 人妻少妇专区, and in the MFA program at the University of Massachusetts. He is the author of聽Men with Debts聽(Random House, 1986),聽A Boy’s Pretensions聽(Simon and Schuster, 1968),聽Recent History聽(Random House, 2001),聽White Guys聽(Picador, 2006), and聽Norumbega Park聽(Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2012), as well as the collection聽The Country of Marriage聽(Random House, 1997). His plays have been produced in New York at Playwrights Horizons and the Manhattan Theater Club, and regionally at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., Seattle Rep, Yale Rep, the Long Wharf in New Haven, and the Cleveland Playhouse.
Giardina’s talk is part of the yearlong Neilly Series, which is supported by the Andrew H. Neilly and Janet Dayton Neilly Endowment, and the River 人妻少妇专区 Libraries.
