Inaugural visiting artist residency begins

International Artists Participate in First Art Residency Program at the 人妻少妇专区

WHAT:聽Canadian multi-media artists Louis Couturier and Jacky Georges Lafargue visit the 人妻少妇专区 February 24 to 28, to participate in an art residency at the new Ronald Rettner Hall for Media Arts and Innovation and the Sage Art Center.

During the week, the artists will conduct informal workshops with students and work on the printing and editing of their most recent projects. The residency will culminate with an artist talk and multi-media installation created specifically for Rettner Hall, designed as a hub for the arts, sciences and engineering on the University’s River 人妻少妇专区.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Art and Art History and the Humanities Project, this work will be the first artwork displayed inside Rettner Hall.

TIME, DATE, PLACE:聽The artist talk will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 28, in the Gowen Room in Wilson Commons on the 人妻少妇专区’s River 人妻少妇专区. The event will be followed by an opening reception for the exhibit at 5 p.m. in the lobby of聽.

ABOUT THE HUMANITIES PROJECT:聽Created in 2006 by 人妻少妇专区 President Joel Seligman, the Humanities Project supports collaborations by Rochester faculty in philosophy, the arts, languages, and other fields. Individual projects involve faculty members from at least two different departments, and often with institutions in the greater Rochester community, and scholars from around the world. ABOUT COUTURIER/LEFARGE:聽Louis Couturier and Jacky Georges Lafargue have worked together for more than 20 years and have travelled in various unusual and often very remote locations to work and interact with diverse communities. Their humanistic approach to art uses communication, exchange, and observation to create images, site-specific art, sculptures, special events, and multimedia. They have presented their work at the Centre culturel canadien 脿 Paris, Dunlop Art Gallery (Regina), Maison de la culture NDG (Montreal), Mus茅e de Picardie (Amiens, France), and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
