Charles Munnerlyn (PhD), an optical engineer, pioneer in the field of laser vision correction, and University trustee, received one of the highest individual honors offered by Texas A&M University, that of Distinguished Alumnus. James Garvey (PhD), chair of the Department of Communications and Professional Writing at Augusta State University in Georgia, was awarded the Richard S. Wallace Distinguished Service Award. He has been a faculty member at Augusta State since 1979 and has served as faculty adviser to the Bell Ringer campus newspaper, campus chair of the 鈥淎 Day for ASU鈥� campaign, and a member and president of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society, among other posts.

Kirsi Peltomaki (PhD), an assistant professor of art history at Oregon State University, is a participant in Call + Response, an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Ore. The exhibit, which was launched in June and runs until October 31, follows nearly three years of discussion, studio visits, and exchanges of ideas among eight pairs of artists and art historians, all of whom teach in Oregon colleges and universities. Kirsi contributes commentary on works by fiber artist Jiseon Lee Isbara.
