Kathy Carrese Gerbasi 鈥�76 (PhD) is the recipient of a State University of New York Chancellor鈥檚 Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Service. An associate professor in the social sciences division of Niagara County Community College, Kathy is a specialist in the field of anthrozoology鈥攖he study of the ways in which humans and nonhuman animals relate to one another鈥攁nd the principal author of one of the first published empirical and peer reviewed studies of 鈥渇urries,鈥� humans who are keenly interested in anthropomorphic characters and art. . . . Lenny Friedman writes that he has practiced intellectual property law at the Chicago firm of Welsh & Katz since his years in the Navy. The firm has recently merged into the general commercial and business services law firm Husch Blackwell Sanders.

Stuart Schneider sends a photo and an update: 鈥淚 am the oldest member of my dojo to obtain the degree of black belt in Heiho Shin Do jujitsu. On Saturday, May 16, I took my final two-hour test to get my black belt in jujitsu. I have been working at it for nine years.鈥�

David Weimer has coedited a book, Investing in the Disadvantaged: Assessing the Benefits and Costs of Social Policies (Georgetown University). The book is among the first to apply cost-benefit analysis to social policies. David is a professor of public affairs and political science at the University of Wisconsin鈥揗adison.

Marie Faust Evitt, a preschool teacher and teacher trainer, has written a book, Thinking BIG, Learning BIG: Connecting Science, Math, Literacy and Language in Early Childhood (骋谤测辫丑辞苍听贬辞耻蝉别).

Sharon Seide Townsend, a New York State Supreme Court justice in Erie County, has been named vice dean for family and matrimonial law of the State Judicial Institute in White Plains, N.Y. Sharon will chair the state court system鈥檚 Matrimonial Advisory Committee, take on the role of a deputy chief administrative judge for matrimonial matters statewide, and provide advice, mentoring, and coordinated training for judges handling matrimonial cases.

David French has been named CEO of Quantenna Communications, a Fremont, Calif., company that develops silicon for high-speed wireless, high-definition video home networking.
1979
Col. Chris O鈥機onnor received the Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management for his work to reduce energy and water consumption as the commanding officer of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar, Calif., near San Diego. In June, Chris relinquished his command of the Miramar station, which he had led since April 2006, and retired from the Marines after 30 years. Mike Rosato 鈥�82, 鈥�89S (MBA), who attended the change of command ceremony at Miramar, sends a note along with a photo. He writes: 鈥淎mong Chris鈥檚 many accomplishments as commanding officer of Miramar was hosting the San Diego Air Show which attracted 750,000 spectators in 2008 and earned honors as the 鈥楤est Air Show in the World鈥� by the International Council of Air Shows.
